California court decision paves way for same-gender marriage equality
Four years after San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom briefly permitted same-gender marriages in his city in open defiance of a statewide ban, the California Supreme Court finally weighed in on the matter today by overturning the voter-approved measure and paving the way for California to become the second state, behind Massachusetts, where same-gender marriage is permitted.

UCC-related Chicago Theological Seminary is planning a 2012 move from its historic Hyde Park home to new facilities nearby on the University of Chicago campus.

Marking Israel's 60th, UCC leaders call for peacemaking
Amid global celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of Israel statehood, two UCC leaders issued a 1,000-word statement on May 14 that reiterated the UCC’s “affirmation of Israel’s right to exist within secure and internationally recognized boundaries.”

The UCC's Disaster Response Ministry has issued two $100,000 emergency appeals in recent days to aid recovery in Myanmar and China, in addition to a $50,000 request to aid tornado victims in Missouri and Oklahoma.

UCC Insurance Board explores more direct relationship with Disciples
Executives of the UCC Insurance Board told Disciples regional ministers at an April 16 meeting that its board is actively exploring a more direct “recognized organization” relationship with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) similar to what it now has with the UCC.
